It was created in 2002 I believe. And I couldn't tell you the inspiration other than people love to cook!

I've been impressed by this site since the first time I looked it over. It's very organized and well-put-together. It was a little hard for me to fit in at first, but once you all decided I was OK, it's been great. I have made a lot of dear friends here, and learned a lot as well.
It's a real trip for a small-town girl to get to talk with people all over the world. Not only do I get to learn your methods of cooking, but I get geography lessons on the side.
