i don't think i ever believed it either. my first seven years , i saw very little of my mom. we lived in a boarding house , where the kids were in separate large room. it was not a happy place and i don't remember ever having a tree til my mom married my step-dad. few presents, no santa . my kids seem to learn by themselves. no big deal as i remember. i have mixed feelings about the whole fable.

We had fun in my family growing up, and I kept the tradition going when I had kids. Once a child figures out that there is no Santa, then they get to pick out all of the goodies to stuff the stockings with (including what goes in their own stocking). They also get to get back up out of bed once the others are sleeping and stuff away. I was the youngest and the last to get to stuff stockings, but it was still just as special, and I got to do it for a long time. Mom still stuck surprises into mine that I didn't know about, so the magic was still there for everyone.
