Sometimes you have to start out not charging (as you did, charging expenses only, not time) to gain some confidence. But don't let it get known that you did it w/o charging for your time, because people start thinking that you'll do it for cost, and your time is worth a lot. I'm speaking from experience with doing beadwork. I still don't know how much I should charge for my time when I'm doing repair jobs. Does spending hours shopping for beads to match a 1920s flapper purse count as time? How about the mistakes you pick apart, because you've never done it before and need to practice? This counts in cake making and other kinds of cooking. Something that should take 3 hours takes 10 hours if it doesn't turn out just right (one reason I don't bake!!!!).
