I had a high school chemistry and biology teacher who was a nurse when Pearl Harbor was bombed and went partially deaf because of the bombings. What most students didn't realize was that she could read lips and wore a hearing aid. Students would say derogatory things about her and then she'd walk right up to them and repeat exactly what they had just said--with their mouths dropped open she'd advise them to hold their hands over their mouths if they didn't want her to know what they were saying. Yep, Mrs. Schwartz, was one cool lady----her descriptions of Pearl Harbor that day were chilling.
