Father Knows Best was the ideal for my parents generation. As an adult student going for my BA, I used to feel I had to apologize for my stay home Mom and stand up Dad. When it came time to introduce ourselves, everyone else had stories to tell about being latchkey kids or from broken homes or whatever. I felt a little out of it when I had to say I had a FKB childhood. Don't misunderstand, most of my classmates hade grown equally in their environments, and perhaps some more so. It did, however, bring home to me the difference between my upbringing and those in my classes in the 80s and 90s. RIP, Jane.
