When my husband was in the army they would go for weeks without showering when they were "out bush". He said eventually no one noticed each other but as soon as you smelt someone or something clean it was a real shock because you realised the difference! I think DH has gone 5 weeks but I'll check with him later.

that reminds me of an army joke.

the men were gathered in formation to hear the colonel speak. "men", he barked" i have good news and bad news".
