let me tell you about my thespian adventure saturday night.............
we went to our favorite little theater to see the closing night performance of "hair".
our seats were front-row on the center aisle.
at the point in the second act when the "tourist lady" is telling the tribe;
"kids, do what you want to do, be whatever you want to be, just as long as you don't hurt anybody."
the tribe pelts her with bananas.
two of those bananas slid off the stage right under my feet; i picked them up because these kids had been running and dancing in the aisles all night.
the "lady" (it was a male actor) then come to the edge of the stage to sing her song.
"i would just like to say
that it's been myyyyyy conviction,
that longer hair and other flamboyant affectations.....
at which point, i lobbed a banana, caught her on her left thigh...............
(silence, dead silence, count to two)
the cast on stage broke up, falling down laughing, then the audience broke up..........
when the crowd settled down, the tourist lady (in character, starts giving me the business,,,"what was that for mister?
do you know this is "hair"? and you can't be in this show because you don't HAVE any.........
at which point i responded in my best stage voice,
"it's still two feet long in my mind, thanks"
well, that brings "her" down off the stage and right in front of me, saying if i insist on being a cast member, she's all for that, but i have to do my part..
at which point, "she" puts a foot on either side of my chair, heaves herself up in front of, pulls my head to her abdomen, (i turn my head of course)
and sings her song, all the while stroking my head, face, and tugging at what little hair i still have.....
at one point asking me " how do you like my song so far??"
at which i responded "i can't hear you.....i have a banana in my ear....(the old burlesque clown in me, lol) so when she gets to the last line, she sings,
"that is the way it iiiiissss in most........"
puts the mike in my face and says "your line........."
(luckily i knew the word) and i sing "species".....
"she" steps down, shakes my hand and starts to turn to the stage, stops and says to me, "do you know what's next ?
and i said, "i think you pose the tribe for your polaroid."
"right! come on up and pose with us".....and she takes my hand and leads me up onto the stage, plops me down amid the "tribe", each of whom has something nice to say to me (one girl, playing melba moore's role from the original even said "iloveyou") we all threw the photographer a "peace" sign, the picture was taken, i was escorted back to my seat by the little girl, and the show went on.
at intermission, my seat was visited by four cast members, including the "lady" whose name was mike, we had a short visit, then the director came over to shake my hand and tell me how great my "gag" went over, etc.
but the highlight of the night was yet to come...............
at the final number, which bleeds into the "let the sun shine in " finale', the tiny girl left the stage, came and took me out of my seat, said, "c'mon; you are a member of this cast, get up there. (as she's leading me to the stage, she has a thought, turns to me and says," if you can't sing, don't; just mouth the words". i told her she had nothing to worry about)
i spent the next three or four minutes dancing, hugging each cast member, singing my face off!!
as we were exiting the theater, a lady stopped us and said she was the house photographer, gave me her card, and told me to keep checking her website for the pics, which she would be posting sometime this week.

Sounds like a great night but now I have about half the score running through my head.

I'll be humming "Age of Aquarius" the rest of the day.
