This was a programme which ran for several decades on the radio until the death of Alistair Cooke, the presenter. It lasted about 15 minutes and took the form of AC's comments on aspects of American life, politics etc. AC was originally English but emigrated to the USA in the 1930s and became a US citizen in the 1940s. Some of you may remember him as the presenter of "Masterpiece Theatre". He had a delicious speaking voice.

To mark the 10th anniversary of Cooke's death BBC Radio 4 Extra is re-running some of the talks with hindsight discussion from a panel of American and British journalists. This morning the letters were from the 1970s. It's worth listening to if anyone feels like it.

(Yes, I know this is not food related but the rubric for this forum says it's for off topic discussions.)
