I'm sorry GB.

I'm so tired of there being so many mean ugly people in this world....

Some days the world is not a nice place to live in. I'm very sorry for your brother, geebs.

If this is of any comfort, maybe it's a good thing your brother wasn't there. If the guy used a crowbar to get in and was high on something, he might have used the crowbar on your brother. Doped-up folks can have amazing strength sometimes.

Yep that IS a comfort Mudbug. That is probably what would have happened I bet!

Well the locksmith has changed the locks and one of the roomates is talking to the cops right now to follow up. The ex-roomate has a warrent out for his arrest for something else so that might help my brother in that they are looking for him anyway. I will keep you all posted if we get any news.

Wow, that really sucks! I know just how you/your brother feel. Last Christmas when I was home I went to my storage facility to get a few things out and everything I owned was stolen (except for two boxes of photos). It made me sick but a few months and I was able to forget about it. Well then I find out that just last week some couple is driving across Texas writing checks with checks that were stolen with all my stuff (I thought I had canceled them). The good news is they causght some crack wh*re with my checkbook in her pocket and she is in an Austin jail.

It is the sentimental stuff that hurts so much. I lost every piece of jewelery from my grandfather, all my neat little things I collected growing up, everything. But hey, on the bright side, we have our health, we have our families, friends and each other here on DC. So if that is the worst thing that happens this year, consider it a blessing. Hopefully your brother will be given some more good karma the next time he goes to the casino again!

That is just awful gb. I'm glad to know that everyone is safe though, that is the most important thing!
About 4 years ago, we were renting a house in New Mexico. We lived upstairs and the landlord built the most beautiful $$$ furniture downstairs, he had a lot of valuable tools down there. We went to bed early, Ryan had been awake all night the previous night because he was working. I was lying in bed awake, I heard the landlord close up downstairs and he walked back to his house. A few minutes later, I saw flashlights and thought maybe our landlord had forgotten something and come back. Nope, the lock was picked and he walked right into our house. Ryan was dead to the world, asleep. I was shaking him and finally woke up. The intruder said "Whass up." And Ryan chased him pell mell. He had a truck waiting and took off. What bothered me too, was that they were watching us. They saw lights off upstairs, they saw them turned off downstairs and saw the landlord walk away. We never found the guy but I was so freaked! About a week later, we got our german shepard and every night that Ryan was working, I stayed at my mom's house. We didn't stay too much longer at that house. But, I'm sure the landlord was happy we were there that night.

Check the pawn shops for that ring, you could get lucky!

Oh man Andy that really suck. To lose all those memories is horrible.

Yeah I think my brother has accepted the fact that this could have been a lot worse and other than the ring, the other items are just things and they can be replaced.

Yep the casion should be good to him on his next trip

corazon90 that is so scary. I am so glad your husband was around to chase the guy off.

The ring will never end up in a pawn shop (I don't even know where there are any in our area. It might have a little gold in it, but it is basically worthless, monetarily at least. The gem was just glass.

Sorry GB, but things, other than that like the ring, stuff that means so much to us, can be replaced.

Have had a neice abducted and killed (took us a month to find her body), and my next door friend's son murdered.

Have had my car stolen.

Have had most of my stuff ruined by two floods and a tornado(different times).

And then there was the lightning hit.

Have essentially no family pictures or anything else left, and have had to rebuild a number of times.

I guess my only point here is that your brother can and will recover.

Whether the person you both think did all this did it or not is not important.

Please keep after the police to do a thorough crime investigation. When my car was stolen in NYC the cops complained that they should not have been called out for something they could do nothing about solving.

Did not make me happy, but I had to carry on.

The important point is that you and your brother have to rebuild from here, believe me.

I know this period stinks.

But you will get through it.

And if you want to gripe, heck, us DCers are here and care.

Oh yes, and for anyone else, please, please, always buy insurance.
