New Telemarketing Gimmick

The other day, while watching TV, a my house phone rang. Our cable service displays the caller ID on the TV screen. I was quite surprised to see my name and home phone number on the screen. I don't know how they did it. I do know it wasn't me calling.

New Telemarketing Gimic

Our house phone has been doing that for awhile too. I answered it once, it was a telemarketer, and I hung up. Now I wait for the answering machine to kick on. I have no idea what's going on either.

Aha! Found this: http://fox17online.com/2014/07/03/ph...-on-caller-id/

Apparently there are apps that let telemarketers change their number to your number. It's called "spoofing".

So we have to endure this invasion of privacy so cheating spouses can be caught?

I fired my home phone service 2 years ago. I have not missed them even a day.

We use cell phones exclusively for phone calls and texts.
I had to keep my land line because I have DSL.

When they call now they get a fax machine. I had one that was bothering me on purpose because i cussed them out and called their mothers terrible names. They laughed at me and continued the assault.
They can't bother me anymore.

I am very careful about who I give my cell phone number to also.
