I can't believe this ****. Two seats away from making it to the final table for a possible seat at the WSOP main event and I lose on a bull**** beat!!!! I'm 4th in chips and I go all in with pocket kings. This guy calls me with pocket fours...FOURS!!! So I'm leading the entire way and then he catches a four on the river! :furious:

Two hands later I go all in with Ace/Queen. The same guy calls me with King/Jack off-suit. The flop comes Ace, 3, Queen so I pair both my hole cards. Fourth street comes and it's a 7. Lightning can't strike twice right? I'm in a perfect position to double up and go back among the chip leaders. Dude catches a 10 on the river for a straight. :censored: :furious: :censored: :furious: :censored:

Ironchef - I sense your pain, but as I don't understand the rules, I am unable to really understand it! :)

I know absolutely NOTHING about poker but I'm guessing from all the angry emoticons that you lost...? I'm oh so clever for figuring that one out, hey?

Anyway, sorry that you lost. If it's any consolation, I'm sure you could kick all their butts in a cookoff!

Ouch, that sucks!! My husband is addicted to Texas Hold'em. He doesn't play at any casino's or anything. Just for fun online and here at home. Hope you didn't lose too much. Wishing you better luck next time!!

IC, you had a bad string of luck. Sorry, man! That just sucks!

For you non Texas Hold 'em players, each player is dealt 2 cards face down, what IC calls the hole cards. A round of betting begins. Then the dealer places three cards face up, called the flop. Another round of betting, and the dealer places the 4th card face up, a.k.a. 4th Street. Another round of betting, and the fifth card comes face up, called The River. Another round of betting, and then the hands are turned over to see who wins.

I feel IC's pain, as typically the odds of winning on The River are around 10%, give or take. In his first hand, Pocket Kings (a pair of kings) is a very strong hand. Give the guy that won credit, because Pocket 4s is somewhat risky to play. Maybe at least see a flop, but after the flop, odds start to go down if no cards in the flop helped you. I would have played IC's hand the same way. Assuming it was just IC and the other guy at the river, IC would have been in the upper 80s to lower 90s percentile to win the hand.

In his second hand, flopping 2 pair is good, and often strong enough to win. You have a decent shot at a full house, which is a very respectable hand. Going to the river with a pair of aces and queens is a fairly safe bet (emphasis on the word fairly, as IC demonstrates).

IC, if the guy had the luck to take two pots on the river, and that luck stays with him, you already know who won the chair. It sucks, but if his luck is that good, you're hosed.

Sorry it the cards weren't in your favor Iron.......pardon the pun! When can you try again? Is it a yearly event? I too don't understand the rules but can imagine your disappointment. You should be proud you made it that far though.

The silly state of Washington just made playing poker on line against the law!
It's a felony. One report that I read said it had the same punishment as having child porn on your computer! I don't play poker but... I think this is stupid. If people want to win/lose their money what business is it of the states?

I don't understand how they will enforce it either... sigh

Are you serious? That is so ridiculous! You'd think law enforcement would have better things to do then try to hunt down people who want to play a game...

Online poker = child porn? BS! Try again! I can understand concern for those that become addicted, but to equal it to child porn? That's beyond stupid!

I generally understand the rules of Hold 'em, but I have never played for real money, and likely never would. Maybe a little game with buddies that pay an entrance "fee", play with chips, and the winner takes the pot of entrance fee, or something like that. Otherwise, I play the free tables online.

No, I didn't lose any money (this was an online tournament) but I had gone through and made to top 3-5 in previous elimination tournaments just to get to that point. The winner of the table I was on would've gotten a seat at the final table with all of the other table winners, and the winner of that final table would've gotten the chance to face the other 9 satellite tournament winners for a paid entry fee to the World Series of Poker Main Event (10K). Plus the site (Full Tilt Poker) would've decked you out in all of their gear for promotional purposes on TV.

Where do you play? I am on PokerStars under the same handle. Sorry about the bad beat. It happens to me all the time and usually when the other player is playing a hand that should have been folded in the first place.

I play on Full Tilt and Ultimate Bet. I used to play on Poker Stars but it got too crowded, especially with people who can't really play. On both sites my sn is
"acekingsucks".

I have to agree about it being crowded with folks that don't know how to play, or play every hand and hit the card they need.

I feel your pain!!

I've played on Ultimate Bet too, but just haven't the time to do so any more.

I think my sn was/is BigEvil1976 . . . . . .

Sorry IC, I understand the frustration.

Am not a card player, but know how to play the game. And you lost to the short odds.

But do like to handicap the ponies, and it is no fun watching your carefully chosen well-placed horse lose to a 50-1 shot with past performances that make him unfit to pull a hayride at a county fair.

Sometimes you eat the bear and sometimes the bear eats you. I just wish the bears weren't so far ahead of the game.

LOL.

Good luck next time.
