I find the same logic applies to wine. I belong to a wine club and know quite a few people - myself included - who at some point in their lives have gone out and purchased a very expensive ($100+) bottle of wine, only to discover it wasn't the orgasmic beverage experience they thought it would be. To put it another way, a $100 bottle is not necessarily five times better than one that costs $20.

in '98, dw and i attended a wedding in so cal of dw'd best friend and wealthy new hubby.

the groom's boss gave them a gift of a few bottles of wine, each costing in excess of $2k that were nearly a century old.

when the reception was over, the groom opened the bottles to share with the remainng wedding party and close friends.

the wine tasted like someone had soaked old baseball mitts and socks in red wine, but no one said a thing.


so much for cellar stored vintage grapes.
