Tech question

I just got a call from my satellite IP and they said I'm over my band limit and if Ive been downloading a lot of music/movies I haven't I share with my neighbor ans all she doe's is a lot of Skype with a lot of pictures and web cam to Bulgaria. Could the Skype be the problem? I can always upgrade to a faster package if I have to. Or could it be DhS 10 year old grand daughter downloaded too many games on the other computer I will need to look on there when she was visiting last month. I don't know anything about bands etc.

I dont think its your grand daughter. Most ISP's give about 100GB worth of bandwidth to a customer per month. Thats alot of bandwidth and i dont think you have a Harddrive big enough to hold 100GB worth of media each month UNLESS you have detachable storage and are archiving it all, like i do. Now your neighbor on the other hand could be the one downloading 100GB's worth or however much your ISP is allowing you. Your best bet is to kick off your neighbor because they can get you into trouble. Trust me, my friend has 5-15 years because someone used his connection to nab child pornography. Wireless internet is very dangerous if not taken care of.

I would be very, very careful with a neighbor using a webcam to or from Bulgaria and loads of pictures and phone calls. Sounds to me like this may be the problem. I totally agree, kicking off your neighbor is a good safety measure. I don't know how your system is set up, but you may be able to check sites visited.

I know she isn't doing anything bad I've known her for years she talks to her family in Bulgaria and had a baby a while back so she is sending lots of pictures of the baby to her sister who has Skype her parents are here visiting as well and it's the only way they stay in contact with relatives in Bulgaria. We all live on a large guest ranch where she met her future husband when she came her to work about 5 years ago. I know she is not up to anything bad I've even let her use my credit card to buy air fare to Bulgaria and she pays promptly she also has worked at the gift shop at ranch all this time and I know the last thing she wants is to be deported. She also has a small business monogramming stuff got the loan for the machine and gets paid to do all the ranch stuff and for other businesses. Her parents don't even know how to use a computer.So what I'm still asking could the Skype be eating up the bands? She is also becoming an American citizen.

nope, skype is very low bandwidth. Thats why people love it. plus its free. Is you connection using any secure protocols to keep it so that others in the area do not pop on and off. There might be someone who only takes advantage of your connection at certain times, bed time per se.
