The Most Expensive Meal We Have Ever Had!

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that enjoys cooking.

They opened a Churrascaria by my old office a few years ago. My wife and I have a friends who are our going out to eat and drink friends. When this place opened we knew we had to go with them. Derek and I had a sort of unspoken competition going. Neither of us would show red until the other did. We both kept out signals green until we just could not take it anymore. They served 25 different types of meat that night and we tried close to every one. It was expensive, but they had to have lost money on us

A few weeks ago we found one close to our house. It was a very bare bones one though. The ambiance was reminiscent of hanging out in a friends basement that had been turned into a playroom. They did not do the red/green thing though. They had a pit master and you took your plate up to him and he gave you whatever you wanted right off the fire. It was only $15 per person for all you could eat or $8 per pound if you wanted a little less or wanted take out.

Barbara, you place looks beautiful and must have been quite an experience. I am sure you will remember it for a very long time. The pictures are great and I am starving now after reading your post.

Barbara, so glad you guys had a good time - it looks fantastic! We went to a place similar to that once and enjoyed it as much as you did. It sounds like a great memory on your trip!

Michelemarie, It will always stand out as one of our most memorable dinners, as will the one at the Mexican karaoke bar/restaurant, but neither will ever top the night out we had with you and your DH! We had the best time that night, and the memories we made that night will be cherished forever!

:)Barbara
P.S. I read your last email but have been really lazy about responding to emails lately! Sorry!

We went to one like this in Mexico last time we were there. The salad bar wasn't good... but the meat was great...and they just keep bringing more and more. Yummy.
The best part though was the grilled pineapple that they brought between meat deliveries. So good and sweet.

Glad you enjoyed it.

Ours gave us fried bananas for in between meat deliveries. Grilled pineapple would have been good too!

Dina, Have you noticed that when you pay that much you tend to really pay attention to the taste of the food more? I usually do pay attention to the flavor, but I think I really gave it more thought at this one! Plus, we tried things we had never had before (like goat cheese, lobster bisque, and heart of palm), so that added to the thought processes.

Right Barb. The taste was fabulous I should add. The steaks were angus, aged cuts..blah, blah and whatever else they described. But DH said that would be the last time he paid a bill over $150 for a meal. LOL

We have a few of those style restaraunts here and they are very good.

I always like to try different things when they bring them around. Last time I had some snake, aligator sausage and chicken hearts.

This makes me want to go back, I think next time the wife and I have all the kids we will go up there and have the kids try some different items.

Babetoo, if you want a meal that is really comparable, but much less costly, go up to the Valley View Casino (in or around Valley Center). Their buffet is really beautiful and delicious. If you sign up for their player's card (even if you don't want to play any of the games) you get it free the first time, and if you don't want to get the player's card, the buffet is $20. It has so many wonderful foods (I thought of it when I saw all the foods on this salad bar--the casino buffet actually has more). They have steaks, crab, salad fixings galore, sushi, stuffed avocadoes, all kinds of breads, luscious desserts, you name it! The only thing you won't have is guys walking around with skewers of meat, but you will get a fantastic meal!

:)Barbara

gonna get her to take me.

Barb - what a great meal! I've been to the one in Charlotte. While fun I don't think it remotely compared to what you had.

Thanks for basically taking us all along on your trip too! What fun!
