Solar-System asteroids are the remnants of a planet that collided with earth, which also created the moon, and a "hole" on the earth that became the Pacific Ocean.

CRAP !!Asteroids are basically minor planets in their own right,all of which drift in an orbit around the sun. Some asteroids are large enough that they boast their own orbiting "moons".
