The nit-picky side of me has to come out now though. The correct name of the bear mentioned is "Smokey Bear," not "Smokey the
Bear." He was actually named for a real bear cub that was rescued in (I believe) New Mexico. Also, according to http://www.smokeybear.com/
the Smokey Bear campaign was started in 1944 (I still had it wrong! lol).
P.S. Interesting! I have been reading through the site I posted. The word "the" was added by song writers because they needed the song to flow, but it didn't change his name. I also saw that even though the campaign started in 1944, the cartoon based on the real bear they found was done in 1950, so that means your answer is correct as well. :)
