Algiers, the capital and Algeria's largest city, averages 50 murders every 24 hours. The entire country of Algeria, where poverty runs rampant, is one of the most violent places in the world, rife with criminals, extremists and rebels.
It's best to stay away from the Kasbah, the most dangerous area of the city.
