in late 1891, Asa Chandler purchased the secret formula from inventor John
Pemberton for $2,300. Chandler concentrated on soda fountain drink sales
and wasn't interested in having the product bottled, and in 1899 he sold
the exclusive rights to bottle the drink across most of the united states to
two attorneys for one dollar.
