Notre Dame's legendary coach was killed in a plane crash in 1931
After graduating from Notre Dame in 1914 with BA degrees in chemistry and pharmacology, he stayed at the college as an assistant to his former football coach. He eventually became head coach, and is famous for his "Gipper" speech and for leading the "Four Horsemen" to many victories.
