TRUTH !!
Jumbo's story began in Africa, where he was captured as a baby and sent to Paris and then to London.
In 1882, he was purchased by P.T. Barnum and taken to America to tour with the Barnum & Baily Circus, where he became quite popular, due partly to his huge size.
After he was hit and killed by a train in 1885, Barnum had him stuffed and continued to tour him until 1889, when he donated Jumbo to Tufts University. Jumbo then became the school's mascot, until another accidentin 1975, when a terrible fire destroyed the stuffed remains. Since then, his ashes have been kept in a peanut butter jar at the university and are considered lucky by Tufts sports teams.
