How funny. My first wedding dress was a dress by an old hippie designer (cannot remember her name) -- all in chambray and muslin, etc. Many years, and a successful marriage later, my best friend from those days asked me to be her matron of honor. By that time, both of us much more conservative. I was being fancied up with those make-you-look-like-a wedding-cake dresses by my sister. My friend, though, just asked me to wear what I thought would be appropriate. I asked her for fabric samples (from her dress) and made a very simple peach linen sheath, floor length, topped by an off white lace jacket. Ironically, the very conservative dress I made was by the same designer as my old hippie dress from my first marriage. I guess we all get older!
