Tips, Tricks to Posting, Creating Links, Photos, etc.,

I thought I would start a thread to make navigating the site, or posting on the site, a bit easier. Maybe post a tip a couple times a week. Any questions or need more help with the instructions please feel free to ask.

Go to your reply box, select(highlight) the word or phrase where you want to make a link (have underlined), then click on the globe icon with a chain on top of the reply box, shown below

Then see this box popping up,

Here you paste the url of the page. Hit okay.

Number of Posts To Show per Page

The greater the number of posts that appear on a page, the less time you waste waiting for new pages to load.

Click on User CP in the menu bar near the top of the page.
Select "Edit Options' from the list of choices at the left of the new screen.
In the new window, scroll down to thread display options and activate the drop down menu in the 'Number of Posts to Show Per Page' section.
Select the option of choice, e.g. 'Show 40 Posts Per Page'
Scroll to the bottom of the window and click on Save Changes.

The higher number of posts per page makes for much more efficient viewing.

I agree with this, but with a caveat. If you use a dial up connection you may not want to try this as it could take much longer for the page to load.

links and explaining a bit about commands

Another way to post a link like urmaniac explained is to use like this:

For example - to link to "whatever page", you would type:

{url=Insert address bar here}COMMUNITY POLICIES or type in here with whatever you want then end the "command" with {/url}

PLEASE NOTEthat the above is just an example and you have to replace { and } with these brackets [ and ] - thus creating a link like this to the Community Policies

Just remember, you turn commands on and then you must turn them off - "/" that slash is the "off" button.

The command for bold is the straight brackets [ and ] around the letter B. Like this, and I can't turn this "command" off until I give the "off" command (the slash) /B with brackets around it like this.

Same with underlining - the command is brackets around the U, then when you are done turn the command off - /U with brackets around it.

Another option to find a thread you are looking for other than using the search engine, if you remember the OP (Original Poster of the thread), or if it was a thread YOU started. Go to the public profile of the OP (or yours, if it was your thread), look to the "Forum Info" box, top left of the four boxes, or right under the signature, where you can also see the join date. Click on "Find all threads started by ......(handle)". There you can see a list of threads that person started, in chronological order (the most recent one on top). Much easier and faster than weaving through everything else.

Once the picture is downloaded on one's computer in a picture album you can then go to someplace like

ImageShack.

Make sure the "Upload" radio button is selected then hit Browse.

Select the picture you want by double clicking on it

Select the size - the largest size DC will handle is 800 x 600

Click on "Host It"

On the next page select Hotlink for forums (first one under the picture)

Left click on the link once to highlight it

Right click on the link and select copy

Go to the reply page here at DC where you want to post it

Say whatever it is you want to say then hit enter a couple times

Right click and select Paste

If you follow those instructions you should get a picture.

Click on "remove size/resolution from thumbnail"
