Question Green Pear

I sent DH on a mission to get fresh fruit for fruit salad. Everythings OK except one very hard green pear. I was able to cut it into small chunks but after tasting, no way was I going to put it in the salad. Should I cook it or something?

Try cooking with a little sugar, water and a slice of lemon.
