Broiling first instead of at the end?

What if I broil my Char Sui country ribs on each side FIRST, to char the sauce? And then if they aren't 140 yet, turn the oven down, or OFF and leave them in until they reach that internal temp?

Rather than try to cook them lower, and broil at the end (risking overcooking them, which I seriously did last time).
