aioli is just a fancy word for mayonnaise. a chef guy i know literally used miracle whip at some function he was cookng for & called it an aioli lol.
 
Lemon Garlic Aioli

Ingredients:
  • ¾ cup mayonnaise (I prefer Hellman’s Light)
  • 1/3 cup finely chopped fresh basil
  • 1½ teaspoons roasted garlic, removed from skin and smashed
  • 1½ teaspoons lemon zest
    [*]1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
Stir together all ingredients in a small bowl. Cover and refrigerate until flavors are well incorporated.

Simple but delicious

Although an aioli is a mayonnaise based sauce, what classifies it as an aioli is the addition of garlic. Mayonnaise by itself is not an aioli, just like hollandaise by itself is not a bearnaise.
