Has anyone ever made a low fat pie crust? I'm looking for a recipe and found this. http://hubpages.com/hub/Diet-Friendly_Pies Will canola oil, instead of butter or shortening, work well for the crust? Thanks in advance.
i made an oil crust once. it was very tender and flaky. i must confess i almost always use ready made.
i think the recipe i used was in the better crocker cookbook. i do remember it was just a tiny bit harder to work with for some reason. give it a try, can't hurt.
I didn't go for it Babe. I went with 1 tbsp of each: shortening and butter for each cup of flour for my crust. It wasn't bad at all. I'll try the oil crust another time.
I know Constance. I have been a grizzly for too long and got me where I'm at with my weight. hee hee I'm working on losing some pounds by exercising and eating healthy. I have lots of fruit and I've been making pies quite often. Just don't want to defeat the purpose of it all.
