I searched for this but failed to locate anything: If any of you search on the web for caramel pie recipes you will likely run into the one where you boil 2 unopened cans of condensed milk on in water on the stovetop.

Has anyone tried this. Did it not explode!? I want to make a caramel pie without blowing up my kitchen. Why can't you open the cans first?

I've had friends who have done this... I'd be too afraid to try though. Condensed milk on the ceiling is NOT something I want to have to clean up.
I know somewhere on this site is another long long posting about this same subject. I'll try to find it.

I've even considered getting one of those seperate hotplate cooking elements to try this. I've already broken my glass stovetop once. It was almost as expensive as the stove to replace it. My wife was not pleased.

lol..no I guess she wasn't. : )

It does taste really really good after all that boiling though.
