Berta's "Fill Up"

First: Mix up a batch of your very best yellow cake recipe (scratch only)
Bake off in muffin tins...

Second: The Sauce....

3 cups whole milk
1/2 Cup AP flour
1 cup of sugar (or to taste)
1 T. vanilla
2 large eggs
dash of salt

Mix flour, sugar, and salt. Place 3 cups milk in a medium boiler. Beat the eggs and add to the milk..stir...add flour mixture. Cook over low heat until slightly thickened. Add vanilla and cool slightly.
Serve warm sauce over warm cup cakes....

This is a favorite of mine since early childhood...It was prepared often by a cook who worked for my stepfather in the early 1950's. I would ask her what it was called and she would say "Fill Up" and laugh!!! I finally figured it out as something to "fill up" on...thus Berta's Fill Up!
