Post Chocolate Cherry Cake

Chocolate Cherry Cake

1 pkg chocolate cake mix -- fudge type if poss
1 can cherry pie filling
1 teaspoon almond extract
2 eggs -- beaten
1 cup sugar
5 tablespoons butter
1/3 cup milk
1 pkg 6 oz chocolate chips


Combine in large bowl: fudge cake mix, pie filling, almond extract and beaten eggs; mix by hand.

(I use Thank You brand cherries And I mix everything else first and mix them in last to keep them as whole as possible.)

Bake in 13 X 9 pan at 350 for 20-30 minutes.


Mix sugar, butter and milk in a saucepan. Bring to boil and boil for one minute. Take off heat and stir in chocolate chips. Pour over slightly cooled cake.

TIP: trouble with the frosting sugaring if the cake
is hot so we wait until the cake is almost room temp

I first came across this recipe 25 years ago and it is still a winner!!! For the icing, I don't use quite that much milk. That makes a difference. This one is always a big pleaser at pot-lucks.
