I am trying to bak ecup cakes in gas oven ..i.e beneath ur cooking range
bjut the cup cakes either burn or get hard!:

Hi. It's easier for us to troubleshoot the problem if you post the recipe.

I'm wondering if your oven is too hot if they are burning. Sounds like they are overbaked. Get an oven thermometer to check the temp. Also post your recipe (even if it's a boxed mix) and someone can trouble shoot that for any inconsistencies in the batter that would affect the outcome as well.
