Hi, new member here...could not find this in my search so thought maybe someone would help....was given a recipe that said make a "well" in the batter....what is the purpose of this and how do you do it? Is this better than regular mixing???:)

Making a well is just forming a deep depression in the middle of the batter so you can put ingredients in it. The mixing process begins after that. Good luck with your baking!

usually it means , make a hole in the center of the batter then add whatever ingredients needed in the hole and mix according to recipe.

Thank you so very much for answering...kind of what I thought but was not sure:)
