How long will iced cupcakes stay fresh?

I am making cupcakes for Christmas, the icing I am using says to refrigerate after opening. So, I assume I will have to refrigerate them but will this cause the icing to get gooey/melted when I remove them to transport them? Also, how long can I keep them this way? They will be in tins.

I would frost them at the last minute.

Yeah, me too. Putting the CC in the fridge will also cause them to dry out.
