Making cakes moist

Are you talking about creating your own recipe? I don't usually fiddle with tested cake recipes, but I've heard that applesauce can be used in place of fats.

Have you googled low fat cake recipe?

same thing I would have said, VeraBlue!

Another thing you can do is use 2 cake pans, and when you assemble it, rather than using a high fat frosting or cream filling, use a mash of fresh berries instead.

Apple sauce is a good addition, sweetens as well. Friend of mine uses pre-made sugar-free pudding, I'll try to get her to give me the trick/recipe.

Add sour cream... or extra oil.... While perhaps not "low fat" it really makes them moist!

My wifes grandmother uses strawberry jam in her cakes to moisten them. She is one of those country grand mothers who wins all the cooking awards at the local competitions.

Yogurt or sour cream (can be fat-free or low fat), or buttermilk.
