I think I will make it in the French White casserole that I usually make my flan in and see how that works. It works well with my other flan, so would think it would be fine - I think that would probably hold about the same amount.

Yeah, I used 8 little ramekins. Don't see why you couldn't cut the recipe in half, altho it does call for 5 eggs (not sure how to do "half" an egg). Go ahead and try the pie dish and see what happens. You are going to have leftovers - at least for a couple of hours, anyway - no matter how you do it.
