Our mother use to make these for us to take for our lunch and as snacks after school.
In a small saucepan melt 6 oz. of german baking chocolate over low heat and then let cool. Cream 1 cup butter til light, then add 1-1/4 cups of confectioners' sugar slowly to the butter continuing to cream til the mixture is fluffy. Blend in 1 tea. vanilla. Sift 1-1/4 cups of flour and1/8 tea. salt into the creamed mixture and stir til smooth. Blend in the chocolate and 1 cup ground walnuts Drop tea of cookie batter 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet bake in preheated oveen at 250 for 40 min. cool for 2-3 min remove to a rack and finish cooling. Store in air tight container.
