Peanutbutter Cookies question

I was just getting ready to make peanutbutter cookies and realized that it called for 1/2 cup veg. shortening. I don't have any in the house, can I sub butter for that? And if so, how much?

Sub the same amount but expect your cookies to spread out more and end up flatter. To counteract that, chill the dough and the cookie sheets before starting and between batches.
