Yes a #40 is about 2/3 oz.

I have several different ones and they are very helpful to me. If I try to just eyeball things the cookies and meatballs just keep getting bigger and bigger.

Since these posts, I have acquired a couple of the scoops Aunt B mentioned. This shortbread recipe (which I had copied but have yet to try) sounds like a sure-fire Christmas cookie for this year. Seems like the price of nuts -- pecans in particular -- as well as the cost of butter is causing Christmas cookies to revert to being the special treats they used to be. Do you more "seasoned" DCers remember when having cookies was something we only got for special occasions? These days I've cut back on having cookies around all the time for health reasons, so they will be more of a special treat once again.
