My candy thermometer, the stick only, is 5.25 " long. Is that standard? I am having trouble getting a pot big enough to make candy and a therm. long enough to touch the syrup. ( I sense I am setting myself up for alllllll sorts of replies.) thanks. m

Some are longer with a sliding clip that holds it to the side of the pot and is adjustable to the depth of the pot.

This has happened to me, before, too. Depending on the recipe, quantity of candy, etc., you may have to angle your pot or your thermometer to get the bulb covered by the syrup to get an accurate reading.

Thank you. I think I will get one of those like a sheath. It is on the pastry link that aguynamed....gave for $11. That style may work.

I need a candy thermometer and went to at least 7 local stores and did not find one. I live in walnut creek california. It seems like every time i need something-i can never find it.

Ya know there are probably several in drawers of neighbors being unused.
