Chocolate covered cherries

Has anyone ever heard of making chocolate covered cherries with canned cherries (pie filling cherries)? Im trying to avoid using maraschino cherries cuz i dislike them. Will canned cherries keep as well as maraschinos? Will they last for the "liquify" phase that takes like two weeks?

don't pie cherries have a "sauce coating" i would think it would be tough to get the chocolate to stay on. maybe fresh ones,

Don't think the "pie" cherries will do the trick. They are too cooked and soft to achieve the end goal.

Maraschino cherries are firm and can be drained so as to be dry enough to be dipped in chocolate.
