Hard shells as in the covering of an M&M

How does one make the covering of an m&m? I have some little treats I'd like to coat with a hard shell but I can't find any information on the net. If anyone has a recipe or some suggestions on key words that might yield some results, I'd appreciate it.

Cheers,

I am going to say it is something based on a cooked sugar slurry, cooked to a crack stage, then added onto the candy while it is in a tumbler.

This might be of some use
