Meringue Mushrooms

I have made Maida Heatter's version to decorate a buche de noel. The extras, I put in a brown basket and my mom thought they looked so real. A trompe d'oeil.

I used to make these years ago and used to put them on a green plate to make it look like a forrest floor. Always used chocolate buttons as the joiner to give the darkness to the bottom of the cap. Make them in a mixture of sizes and don't sprinkle them all with chocolate - leave some pure white.
Too many restaurants, not enough time...
