We both love "prime rib" with the juice and horseradish sauce and all..

we go "out" for that, but our fave spot "Steak and Ale" is now closed, and it doesn't seem to be very available any place else..

I really can't afford a Prime Rib Roast and it's just 2 of us anyway..

Is there another, smaller beef cut I could roast and get close?

Grocery sells Rump Roast, Top Round Roast, and Shoulder roast, all boneless..

Which one or others? How do I cook for that same rare, but crusty tenderness?

Thanks, Eric Austin Tx

You could buy a small standing rib roast - one or two ribs for the two of you. They are also available boneless in smaller sizes.

I have found Sirloin roasts to be close. A bit denser but the flavor is there.

1 or 2 ribs roast would be cheaper than going out anyway. Prime rib in the restaurant is not cheap at all.

True. I just bought, as a treat, a small 5# standing rib roast for $25 at Costco. It's enough for 3 large servings.
