Hungarian Kuvasz.

"The Kuvasz is an intelligent and curious dog. Bold, determined, brave and fearless. Easy to housebreak. This livestock guardian is very territorial with strong protective instincts. It makes an excellent guard dog. It is an outstanding herder and defender of the flock against wolves." All this and more. Dunno 'bout the housebreakin' bit though.

If a grey wolf does not count here, then a Norwegian Wolfhound., dah......... or a besinge (may not be spelled correctly it is the barkless dog.)

Norwegian Wolfhound (actually Elkhound) puppy

The Finnish Spitz works as well

DS, that's what's your problem has been. You should have been looking for a French gal.

I believe Hooch from the movie Turner & Hooch is a Dogue de Bordeaux. It's a gentle giant.

By the way, I'm a Pekingese.

No, you are absolutely right middie. A Dogue de Bordeaux is also known as a French Mastiff.
