almandine - The French term meaning "garnished with almonds." It's often misspelled "almondine."
 
Ortolan-small birds the French love to eat and are now illegal to catch as they're on the endangered list...but that's not stopping a bunch of so-called gourmets from having ortolans for dinner.
And comment: sorry, forgot who started this thread, but if you examine the letter frequency, I think you'll find more variety if the "second" letter was the initial letter in succeeding posts. Just a thought.
