French Onion Soup (avec beer)

French Onion Soup (with beer)

Anybody have any recipes for a french onion soup that uses beer and what kind of beer should I use? I was told a Guinness stout might be a good idea....

I would like to use Martha stewart's recipe but with beer and I'd like to know what changes I should make, do you think I can simply substitute the wine for beer?

French Onion Soup - Martha Stewart Recipes

I've always used sherry or port, but what the heck. Maybe make a smaller batch and try it with stout subbing for the wine. I like a strong beer in my cheese soups too. And WITH my cheese soups....

Just googled French Onion soup with beer, some nice recipes to be found.

Yes, I think you could sub beer for the sherry.

Have you looked up cheddar beer soup recipes?

Sherry

Thanks guys, sounds like the best thing to do is substitute the sherry for beer.
