Click ins!

still don't quite get it. what is "scaming for click ins?"

Hi babetoo, let me just give you my own experience with my own little website. Two years ago it couldn't be found with a google search and believe me google controls. It was so new and unknow no one could find it if they wanted to, not even down through the eight hundred places that google showed for the strongest key word "ukraine orphans". To bring a site up where it will show in a google search it has to have click ins - ie visits, and enought to bring it within view.

I didn't do anything dishonest, sneaky or underhanded but just kept on working and today it is number four out of almost five hundred thousand citations using "Ukraine orphans" as a google search key word. Not bad.

I added features that brought people in the door - a page of borsch recipes is one (including our very own CharlieD's contributions!). Twenty to one people are more interested in their own stomachs than hungry orphans! But it brings them in. Using "Ukraine links" as a search the site generally is in the top ten out of about thirty five million, and yes that is million, citations.

I don't take a dime for this - don't even use google advertisements for a way to generate a few dollars, I just don't. It's a gift to the orphaned, disabled, sick and disadvantaged children of Ukraine. You are always welcome! Its tag is .net, easy to find. I have just moved in with my daughter and am using her computer. I've got to put a router on the line here so I can get back at it with my own little laptop that has all the files! :)

Hey, recipe, I see you're online right now. Are you coming back to share with us? We're all curious to find out about your regional dishes and such. Care to share?

Thanks, David.......if someone wanted to make a contribution to the orphans how would they go about it??? I refuse to donate to organizations that spend most of your $$$ on admin costs............maybe you'll need to pm me so that we don't take up thread space..........thanks

ok, can you explain what that means in English??? have we wasted our time in welcoming him???

Yes Expatgirl;

The only reason this person posted is to have that link at the bottom listed.

There are spiderbots that catalog information for Yahoo, Google, AOL and such. (this is many of the Anonomous you see when looking at "Who is online") People are paid to go place these links on forums so the spiders find them and catalog the site as linked to another site with higher traffic. Moves them up in the ratings when the search is completed.

I am admin for another cooking site and we fight this constantly. It got so bad two years ago that a group of us that Admin social network sites formed an alliance to share data that allows us to kill most of these posts prior to them being catalogged.

That was good, but it also increase our SEO impact numbers, since the sites were so clean of tags, that made the sites more of a target as the impact of getting a link through is so dramatic.

But recently in working with the google spiders we have found a way to reverse the effect. On some sites we allow the spider to come through to a forum the members can not see but it can catalog, then the spider is programmed to come back.... anything missing from the last visit receives a reverse weighted rating since it was removed by admin as a spam or porn link or SEO link farmer.

Anyway I could go on but it is techie stuff no one is really interested in... but we use it to make our real paid for links worth a lot more money. Revenue streams are the key to keeping social networks going.

Only online to check and see that the link has not been removed. This person will be monitoring about 50 of these sites for that link.

Admin would be well served to remove it.

Wow.......I had no idea.......thanks for the explanation.........stupid jerks................

Actually this person never wanted to be a member. The link to the Recipe URL in the signature is all they wanted to accomplish. They believe they are doing Search Engine Optimization minipulation when they tag these links on tons of different forums.

Basically this person is a forum spammer is what he means.

It was gotten rid of quite a while ago. The post is still there, but the link is gone.

That's not the truth, GB, that the link was "gotten rid of quite a while ago." ...... The post is still there as you state and so was the link up until late afternoon TODAY when I was on line here and again came over to check this out.

Please do not call me a liar QG. It is a matter of perspective. Yes the link was removed today. Quicksilver asked to stop beating a dead horse and get rid of it at 8:25 tonight. It had already been taken care of hours ago. You may not think that qualifies as quite a while ago, but others might (and do). Anyway, I am not sure why you are making any sort of deal over it. It HAS been taken care of. I am sorry it did not meet your strict time line. Please remember QG, the mods and admins here are volunteers with families and lives outside of DC.

Those are YOUR words, GB, NOT mine.

This thread has been up and active for over 12 days, throughout of which any number of the member posts have asked this be addressed. The past 12 days is closer to "quite a while ago" vs the 2 hours ago it took for the link to be removed. Strict time line? Humm....288 hours vs. 2 hours? Strict?

Anyway, I am not sure why you are making any sort of deal over it.

Making any sort of "deal" over it? Are you for real????

When you allow people to pour out their excitement, their anticipations, and any other emotions over a new "member" and one that is anticipatory from such a diverse country, and then for us to learn that this is NOT a "person" and then go ahead and allow those same people and others to feel foolish, betrayed, angered, and whatever else they may, that is reason enough to make a deal over.

Somebody needs to get a good swift dose of EMPATHY.

I am sorry it did not meet your strict time line.

You need to apologize to the other members, GB, whom were waiting and who voiced any such comments, not me.....

Please remember QG, the mods and admins here are volunteers with families and lives outside of DC.

I'm very well aware of this, GB, and for the most part, do appreciate all that these people do to keep this site up and running smoothly, cleanly, safely, etc., but on this one, you blew it. Twelve days.... :ermm:

GB did not blow it.......he works hard like the rest of the site admins.......if he said it's off...it's off.......this is not the place to be ranting and raving at other people who volunteer their time and services for the good of the site........I could have cared less if it was a spammer.......I've been taken in before and managed to recover and will be taken in again in the future.........the post was removed before most people even knew about it.......for GB to apologize for doing a nonpaid volunteer job is ludicrous........it sounds like you were more embarrassed than anything for being taken in..........it happens.......but don't get your knickers in a twist over it..........be happy.....this is a fun site..........and great people to get to know.........

Let Peace Return!

Hear Hear! Call the Court Jester! Forsooth, Sir GB is one of our very favorite people. The barbarians are not at the gate; all is well in the kingdom! The attack has been repulsed by our brave knight.:bash:

Thank you very much expatgirl and Dave! I really appreciate your comments.

GQ, I was going to respond to your ridiculous rant, but have decided it would just not be worth it. The people here know how this site is run and no doubt know how insane your post is so I am just going to let your comments go into the ether. If you would like to discuss this further then feel free to PM me. I am locking this thread as there is nothing left to discuss about it.
