I retired recently. To celebrate, I chose to remove some nuisance trees to make way for a vegetable garden. The garden is in, and now I am ready to try preserving. Despite trying to squash the tomatoes into the jars - I still have a band of liquid at the bottom of my jars. I bought some 50-year old Kilner bottles and now I'm trying to find out where I can get the rings and bands for them. Early days, I guess I'll master preserving or else the kit goes into my crowded 'appliance heaven'.
