Hi all - I joined today as a result of seeing a recipe after googling poppy seed dumplings. The person who posted the recipe was a member. However it was not close to the dumplings my Grand Ma used to make with rye flour, maple syrup, and lots of poppy seed.

I have a very rough recipe. Any ideas? Anybody hear of such a recipe?

I am glad I am retired so I can eat poppy seed without fear of failing a drug test.

Let me know if this is not the way this site works.

Peace. Bob

Welcolmb Weinhold!

Please post your "Rough Recipe"

My guess is this is like an Apple Dumpling?

if it is like an Asian steamed dumpling or boiled Potato Dumpling ..I may be off ..

but the fruit comes in a small can next to the apple pie filling at your grocer..

Rough Recipe for Poppy seed dumplings

Here's what I have:

2 lbs ground poppy seed
2 lbs unbleached flour
1 lb rye flour
24 oz. pure maple syrup
4 1/2 C salted water

Dumplings:

mix flour together
add salted water to flour.
knead flour
roll dough to about 1/4" thick
after rolled cut into 1/4" pieces
add dough to 6 qts boiling water, boil until dough segments float to top, takes about 30 seconds.

put poppy seed in large bowl
place cooked segments into poppy seed
then cover
repeat until entire batch is done

brown sugar syrup:

dissolve brown sugar with 3 cups cold water, bring to boil.
add maple syrup and mix well

pour over dumplings and poppy seed and mix well.

I have never tried this. What do you all think? Thanks.
