Well being a german.. My mom was born there and we ate saurkraut like we drank water..
*and yes it does take a long time to make we had barrels in our garage*
My mom ALWAYS added fried onions and bacon to it.. buy doing so you will find that the smell of fried bacon takes over the kraut..
But like it was said earlier half the battle is having that LOVELY (gosh im drooling already) smell in the house!
