Well, toothbrushx2 - I still don't know what was overpowering about the tomato paste (LOL) ... but looking at the recipe I would suggest only using a tablespoon or two of tomato paste next time (instead of two cans). Put in part of the paste early in cooking ... and then taste it 15-minutes or so before it is done to see if you need to add more.
Actually - from the recipe you posted - I think two cans of paste is way too much for the amount of liquid.
